Reflection of the Serengeti - ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING

This painting was all about exploring extreme tactile contrast. To capture the rugged, weathered reality of an elephant's skin, I heavily sculpted the surrounding folds using a palette knife and dense impasto gels. This gives the physical canvas a massive, sculptural presence and a substantial 2.5kg weight. In deliberate contrast, the eye itself was built slowly over several days using traditional multi-layered transparent oil glazes to trap and pool the light from within. A single, sharp white reflection dot brings the subject immediately to life.

Note for Collectors: Due to the authentic, deeply sculpted impasto technique used to create the 3D skin texture, this original piece carries a premium physical weight. Heavy-duty hanging hardware is highly recommended.📍 Hand-painted in my studio in Scotland. Ready to ship.
